Description

This ashtray is crafted from solid copper. Crafted in the Unites Sttes of America during the Brilliant period. It has a bronze feel to the surface. Designed especially for the Knights of Pythias (see below) it has the patent applied for. Stands on 3 feet, Measuring 12cm across it is , I believe, a very rare ashtray- could have even been a protype. I have searched extensively to see something similar but to no avail. In between each Cigar rest there is the tabbed symbols and heraldic badge of the organisation. The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society[2] founded in Washington, D.C., on 19 February 1864. The Knights of Pythias was the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress.[3] It was founded by Justus H. Rathbone, who had been inspired by a play by the Irish poet John Banim about the legend of Damon and Pythias. This legend illustrates the ideals of loyalty, honor, and friendship that are the center of the order. The order has over 2,000 lodges in the United States and around the world, with a total membership of over 50,000 in 2003. The order is headquartered in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Some lodges meet in structures referred to as Pythian Castles. Notable Pythian Knights • Louis Armstrong, jazz trumpeter and singer • Warren G. Harding, U.S. Presiden • William McKinley, U.S. President • Nelson A. Rockefeller, U.S. Vice Presiden • Franklin D. Roosevelt, U.S. President, who joined in 1936, during his presidency RARE American Antique Knights of Pythias solid heavy Copper Cigar Ashtray c 1910
